Frequently asked questions

Understand before designing.

Dimensions, systems, performance and project organisation: the essentials for planning your aluminium windows and doors.

01

Large openings

Dimensions, configurations and opening options.

What is the maximum size of your windows and doors?

Depending on the system and project configuration, we can manufacture openings up to 3 m high and 2.50 m wide per panel, with a weight of up to 250 kg per panel. Every opening receives a specific assessment of feasibility, ease of movement and performance.

Do you create large glazed openings?

Large openings are one of UPORIZONS’ specialities. We assess generous glazing and panoramic openings in relation to dimensions, glass weight, everyday use, required performance and installation conditions.

What is the difference between standard sliding and pocket sliding doors?

With standard sliding doors, the panels move and overlap within the opening. With pocket sliding doors, they continue into a pocket built into the partition. Depending on the configuration, this can clear most or all of the passage.

Do you offer pocket sliding doors?

Yes. Pocket sliding systems allow one or more panels to retract into the partitions, strengthening the connection between indoors and outdoors. Feasibility depends on the structure, available thickness, weather sealing and integration into the building work.

Do you create pillar-free glazed corners?

A corner opening without a fixed pillar can be assessed where the geometry, structure and window or door system allow it. Open panels then clear the corner to create a panoramic view.

02

Architecture & design

Slender lines, integration and ease of use.

What is a concealed sash?

From outside, the moving sash is concealed behind the outer frame. This design creates consistent lines between fixed and opening sections while maximising glazed area and natural light.

Are concealed hinges available?

Some configurations can accommodate concealed hinges. These sit within the window rebate to preserve clean lines when the window is closed.

Can a recessed threshold be integrated?

A recessed threshold can strengthen visual continuity and make passage between indoors and outdoors easier. It must be planned alongside finished levels, weather sealing, drainage and substrate constraints.

Can the windows open through 180°?

Some side-hung windows can open to almost 180° where the hardware, window position and surrounding clearance allow it. We check this during the technical assessment.

Do you manufacture tilt-and-turn windows?

Yes, where the dimensions and intended use allow it. A tilt-and-turn window combines conventional side-hung opening with a tilted ventilation position.

03

Performance

Glazing, thermal comfort, acoustics and durability.

How should summer comfort be considered for large glazing?

The choice begins with the façade’s orientation, sun exposure, glazing and proposed solar shading. We assess these alongside natural light and ventilation requirements. Large glazing needs to be considered in the context of the room; its performance cannot be promised on glazing alone.

What maintenance do the windows, doors and tracks need?

Care instructions depend on the installed finishes and equipment. They cover profile and glass cleaning, keeping tracks and drainage outlets clear, and maintaining mechanisms. Coastal exposure and salt spray must be considered. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on products and maintenance frequency.

Do you offer triple glazing?

We can assess double- or triple-glazing options according to the project objectives. The choice depends on the required thermal and acoustic performance, dimensions, permitted weight and façade exposure.

Can large glazed surfaces still perform well?

Yes, provided the complete installation is correctly sized. Suitable profiles, glazing, reinforcements and hardware, together with installation quality, can combine large dimensions and natural light with thermal and acoustic comfort.

Are aluminium windows and doors suitable for coastal locations?

Aluminium is suitable for coastal settings when surface treatments, finishes, accessories and maintenance match the level of exposure. Proximity to the sea and salt spray are considered from the assessment stage.

04

Project & lead times

Assessment, coordination, manufacturing and installation.

When should I contact UPORIZONS?

As early as possible. Involvement during design lets us assess architectural intentions against dimensional, structural, glazing, weather-sealing and installation constraints while choices can still be adjusted.

Do you work on both renovations and new builds?

Yes. For renovations, we assess the existing building, levels and adaptation options. For new builds, early involvement helps integrate thresholds, structural openings, wall pockets and connection details.

Do you work with architects and project managers?

Yes. We support architects, project managers and design consultants on dimensions, performance, configurations, integration details and coordination with other project participants.

Do you handle assessment, manufacturing and installation?

UPORIZONS supports your project from technical assessment to installation. This continuity helps preserve consistent choices, anticipate connections and control the quality of execution.

Which factors affect the price of bespoke glazed openings?

Dimensions, panel count, opening system, glazing specification and finishes all influence the price. Existing-frame removal, building adaptations, access and handling also need to be considered. A quote should clearly distinguish the windows and doors, installation and associated building work.

What happens after my initial enquiry?

We discuss the location, desired openings and available information. This initial review identifies what is missing and the next steps: additional drawings, site measurements or a technical assessment. We agree the scope and schedule before proceeding.

Do I need final plans before contacting you?

No. A sketch, photographs and approximate dimensions are enough to start a discussion. They do not replace the site measurements and approvals required before manufacturing. For recessed thresholds or pocket sliding doors, contact us early enough to coordinate structural openings with the building work.

What are your lead times?

Lead times depend on dimensions, finishes, glazing and project complexity. Following the technical assessment, we establish a clear provisional schedule covering approval, manufacturing and installation.

About UPORIZONS

Positioning, service area and starting an assessment.

What does the stated thirty years of experience refer to?

This refers to the professional experience with aluminium systems that underpins UPORIZONS’ expertise. The experience predates the company’s creation; it does not describe the age of the business.

Are the images shown photographs of completed installations?

The project images currently shown are illustrative reconstructions. They explain the design intention and opening configuration; the settings are not contractual. Dimensions and specifications stated in the project sheets are separate from these illustrations.

How does UPORIZONS differ from a traditional window and door installer?

We specialise in assessing large openings alongside site constraints: glass weight, thresholds, wall pockets, building connections and handling. The Valbonne project and pocket sliding systems in Cannes and Théoule illustrate this approach.

Which areas do you serve?

We primarily serve the Alpes-Maritimes and Monaco: Valbonne, Biot, Mougins, Opio, Antibes, Cannes, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Vence, Nice and Monaco. Depending on the project, we may also work elsewhere on the French Riviera.

How can I request a project assessment?

Contact us through the form, by phone or by email. For a useful initial assessment, send us any architectural plans, sketches, photographs, available dimensions, a project description and specific constraints.

Do you offer bespoke solutions?

Yes. Every window and door is assessed and sized for the architecture, intended uses, required performance and aesthetic intentions of the project.

Why involve you at an early stage?

A large opening is more than its dimensions. As glazed areas increase, it becomes all the more important to plan loads, performance, ease of movement, weather sealing and integration details.
